About me
Hi, I’m Katie (she/her). I am a copyeditor whose professional roots are in museums and historic sites.
In 2016, after completing my M.A. through the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture at the University of Delaware, I relocated to Southern California and worked as a museum educator in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Diego for eight years. I loved facilitating community engagement with museums—helping K-12 students learn about California history through hands-on activities; training volunteers to welcome and teach visitors about paleontology, urban nature, and more; planning programs for visitors of all ages to connect them with museum stories; and developing engaging interpretive stations and label copy for exhibitions.
Along the way, I found I also loved writing and editing—everything from field trip curricula and tour outlines to e-newsletters and website copy. I completed UC San Diego Extended Studies’ Copyediting Certificate in 2025 to further explore the power of language and sharpen my skills in ensuring written communication with all audiences is as clear, coherent, consistent, and correct as it can be.
As a copyeditor, I combine my focus on the audience with meticulous editing and a deep respect for the author’s voice. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, ACES: The Society for Editing, and the Society of Winterthur Fellows, and I am delighted to work with nonfiction clients of all types—museums, universities, publishers, individual authors, nonprofits, companies, and more.
Originally from New Jersey, I now live in Los Angeles’ South Bay, where I enjoy reading fiction, singing with my toddler daughter, and searching for sea glass at low tide.
